Yiannis Ghikas, born in 1969 in Athens, is a Greek industrial designer known for merging computer science precision with artistic product design. He gained significant international recognition for the "Monarchy" stool, which earned him a Red Dot Design Award in 2009. His work often focuses on the emotional impact of functional objects, a philosophy clearly seen in his "Soda" tables for Miniforms—blown-glass pieces that won the 2021 Dezeen Design Award.
Throughout his career, Ghikas has collaborated with diverse brands like Convex, Objekten, and Feld, creating everything from minimalist door handles to experimental cork furniture. A 2018 residency in Arita, Japan, further expanded his style, leading him to integrate traditional porcelain craftsmanship into his contemporary portfolio. His designs are characterized by their simple geometries and the subtle way they challenge a user's expectations of everyday objects.
