D'Urbino and Lomazzi
Donato D'Urbino (born 1935) and Paolo Lomazzi (born 1936) are influential Italian designers who shaped the Radical Design movement.
After meeting at the Polytechnic University of Milan, they teamed up with Jonathan De Pas in 1966 to form their legendary Milanese studio. Together, they challenged traditional furniture concepts by focusing on industrial materials, playfulness, and pop culture.

They became global icons in 1967 with the Blow armchair, the first mass-produced inflatable chair. This was followed by the Joe sofa, a massive leather baseball glove designed to honor Joe DiMaggio, and the Sciangai clothes rack, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1979 for its innovative folding mechanism.

Beyond furniture, they designed temporary architecture, exhibition spaces, and urban layouts. Following De Pas’s death in 1991, the duo continued to collaborate with major brands like Zanotta, Alessi, and Cassina until 2017.
Their work is now preserved in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Victoria & Albert Museum, while their studio archives are recognized as a site of national historical interest in Italy.
