Konstantin Grcic
Konstantin Grcic (born 1965) is a leading German industrial designer known for a minimalist and functionalist aesthetic that often incorporates sharp, geometric forms. Originally trained as a cabinetmaker in England before studying at the Royal College of Art, he honed his craft under the mentorship of Jasper Morrison. Since opening his own studio in 1991, he has become a defining figure in contemporary design through his rigorous, logical approach to industrial materials and manufacturing. His most significant contributions include the Mayday lamp for Flos and the die-cast aluminum Chair-One for Magis, both of which are considered modern icons and reside in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). A three-time winner of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro, Grcic bridges the gap between high-concept art and mass-market utility. Beyond product design, he is an influential academic and curator, currently serving as a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
